Kari Knutsdatter (1826 - 1872)

Kari Knutsdatter was born in 1826 on Austvik farm, Sveio in Sunnhordaland County, Norway. She died in 1872 on Straumøy farm in Sveio. She was daughter of Knut Knutsen Austvik and Anna Larsdatter. She married Hans Thomsen. They had 1 son:

1. Hans Carl Thomsen, b. 5 Jan. 1854(# 14), d. 1941, m. 1887, Mary Ellen Griffiths. He moved to New Zealand abt. 1886.

Hans Thomsen moved from Engesund and bought Straumøy farm in Valestrand (Sveio) in 1851. He was running the farm until he died 29 years old in 1853. His son Hans Carl was born a few months after he died. Hans Thomsen owned , 1 horse, 5 cows, 25 sheeps, "1 hustømre", the half of 3 nets and a mill, 2 fishingboats, a new seahouse, 1 bridecrown.


He also owned a small library of Christian literature: 1 bibel, 1 devotion book, 1 "Bibelske sange", a hymn book written by Vexel, 2 Kingo hymn books, a prayerbook, 1 "Kristelig samliv", 1 "Taler av Gosner", 3 packets with small books, 1 "Hjertets speil", 1 "Sjelens Sangoffer".

The ratable of his farm was 525 speciedaler.

Kari married (2) Jon Johannessen from Andal farm, Bømlo in 1855. Jon was born in 1831 and he died in 1919. They had 3 children:

1. Johannes, b. 1856, he was living in Farsund.
2. Simon Andreas, b. 1857, he was married and living on Straumøy farm.
3. Knut Jens, b. 1860, parish clerk in Åkra, Karmøy, m. Anna Henrikke Salomonsdtr. Straumøy.

Jon married (2) Torborg Larsdtr. from Vik farm, Skånevik, b. 1839, d. 1896.
They had 2 children:

1. Lars Kornelius, b. 1877, d. Unmarried in 1910. He was a teacher.
2. Jon Andreas, b. 1878, d. 1898.

Jon bought Straumøy farm, bnr. 5 in 1889 and was running the farm until 1903. He also owned bnr. 1. 1)
