Solomon Cornelius (Sam) Thompson (1877 - 1951)

Sam Thompson (or Salomon Kornelius Gerhardsen as his name was in Norway) was born Aug. 31, 1877(# 41) on Ivarsøy farm, Fitjar, Hordaland County, Norway. He died on May 10, 1951 in Clearbrook, Clearwater County, MN. He was son of Gerhard Conrad Thomsen and Anna Martine Olsdatter. Sam married Ingeborg Torgerson, Aug. 17, 1912 in Clearbrook. She was born on March 28, 1892 in Boyd, MN. She died Dec. 6, 1958 in Clearbrook. They had 5 children:

1. Anna Ingeborg Thompson, b. Dec. 24, 1912, d. Oct. 11, 1990, m. Jan. 10, 1943, Peter Halvorson.
2. Ragnvald Thompson, b. Feb. 8, 1917, d. Jan. 13, 1996, m. June 8, 1957, Mildred Mae Konsterlie. Find A Grave

Salomon Kornelius' christning was on Sep. 16, 1877 in Fitjar church (See birth link above). He was confirmed Oct. 4, 1891(# 4) in Fitjar church. His grade was very good. He was then living on Ivarsøy farm.

Salomon Kornelius emigrated from Bergen to America, June 26, 1900. He was then 23 years of age and a sailor. He travelled by Allan Line. Probably he first went to Liverpool and from there to Point Levis, Quebec, Canada with the ship S/S Parisian. He arrived in Quebec on July 14, 1900. He was going to his brother Hans Gerhardson in Belgrave, Minnesota and the trip was prepaid by his brother.

According to Jacob Aaland, Salomon emigrated to Belgrade, Minnesota in 1896. Latest known adress is Clearbrook, Minnesota.
