Christine Sophie (Weltzin) Sem (1773 - 1868)

Christine Sophie Weltzin was born 1773 in Stødle, Etne, Hordaland County, Norway. She died on Nov. 28, 1868(# 2) on Grindheim farm, Bømlo, Hordaland County, Norway. She was daughter of Jacob Friderich Weltzin and Brita Olsdatter. Christine Sophie married Hans Messel Sem on Dec. 3, 1806 in Bømlo. They had 5 children:

1. Wilhelmine Cathrine Sem, b. 1807(# 63), d. Feb. 15, 1896, m. June 23, 1835(# 11), Peter Nilsen Grindheim.
2. Christiane Margrethe Hertzberg Sem, b. 1809, d. June 13, 1840(# 52), m. June 14, 1839(# 23), Widower Johannes Larsen Andal.
3. Berthe Lovise Veltzin Sem, b. 1812, m. July 8, 1832(# 13), Baard Reiersen Ulvaråker, Sveio.
4. Henriche Vilmiche Sem, b. 1814, d. 1815.
5. Jacobine Fridericha Marie Sem, b. 1816, d. 1825.

Christine Sophie's daughter Wilhelmine Cathrine was born in Bergen, the other children were born on Børøy, Moster, Bømlo, Hordaland County, Norway.

Her daughter's Wilhelmine Cathrine and Berthe Lovise emigrated to America. Berthe Lovise emigrated with 4 of her children on May 20, 1869 from Bergen, Norway and arrived in Quebec, Canada on July 13, 1869. They travelled with the bark Lyna. (See # 130 - 134)

Christine Sophie's christening was held on Feb. 8, 1773 in Stødle kirke, Etne, Hordaland County, Norway.

In the 1801 census, Christine was living in Skånevik, Hordaland County, Norway.

Christine Sophie and her family moved to Børøy in Moster, Bømlo, Hordaland County, Norway, abt. 1808. They lived on Børøy until 1848 when they moved to Espevær. When her husband died she moved to her daughter Wilhelmine Cathrine on Grindheim farm.

In the
1815 census "Christine Sophie Sem" was living on Børøy farm, Moster, Bømlo, Hordaland County, Norway, together with her husband and their children.

In the
1865 census "Soffie Kjistine Velsing" was living on Upper Grindheim farm, Moster, Bømlo, Hordaland County, Norway, together with her daughter Wilhelmine Cathrine and her family.

Christine Sophie's burial was held on Jan. 24, 1869(# 2) in Bømlo.
