Cornelius Mandius Thomsen (1871 - 1942)

Cornelius Mandius Thomsen was born 8 Nov. 1871(# 3) on Einstabøvoll farm, Valestrand (Sveio) in Sunnhordaland County, Norway. He died 16 Feb. 1941 in Bear Lake, MN. He was buried in Opstead Cemetery, Opstead, MN. He was son of Taurelius Cornelius Thomsen and Marie Magdalene Olsdatter. Cornelius Mandius married Anna Bertile Anderson, 26 Sep. 1903 in Idun Township, Minnesota. She was born 18 May 1874 in LaCrosse, WI, and died 11 May 1917 in Bear Lake, MN. She was buried in Opstead Cemetery, Opstead, MN. They had 7 children:

1. Johanna Marie Thomsen, b. 14 June 1904, Idun Township, Minnesota, d. Dec. 1974 in IL. She married Albert BREDAHL. He was born 25 June 1890 in Spring Valley, WI, and died 25 Nov. 1955 in Superior, WI. She married Paul Anders FORSGREN. He was born 16 Nov. 1902 in Sala, Sweden, and died 1984.

2. Thoralf Taulerius Thomsen, b. 31 Mar. 1906, Idun Township, Minnesota, d. 1988, Idun Township, Minnesota.

3. Ragna Katrina Thomsen, b. 21 Jan. 1908, Idun Township, Minnesota, d. 1986. She married Arnt Arntzen on 30 Dec. 1926 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was born 20 Mar. 1890 in Rossness, Norway, and died 1977.

4. Ralph Sigurd Thomsen, b. 8 Jan. 1910, Idun Township, Minnesota, d. 2 Oct. 2006, Onamia, Minnesota.

5. Leif Arne Thomsen, b. 12 Oct. 1911, Idun Township, Minnesota, d. 1991 in Mora, MN.

6. Bertha Esther Thomsen, b. 1 Sep. 1913.

7. Joseph Benjamin Thomsen, b. 2 Jan. 1916.


Joseph Benjamin (Bud) Thomsen, Ralph Sigurd Thomsen, Bertha Esther Lennardtz (Thomsen), Thoralf Taulerius Thomsen, Johanna Marie Forsgren (Thomsen), Marie Gurine Thomsen (Tolleif George's oldest daughter), Erling Andreas Thomsen (Tolleif George's second oldest son).

Here you can see some old picture of Cornelius and his family.

At the time Taulerius Conrad Thomsen and his sons settled in to northern Minnesota (1901), the US Government was granting land to anyone for asking. They each received 160 acres of land, adjacent to each other. Here you can see Cornelius Mandius Thomsen's land patent. 1)
