Karl (Carl) Bergesen (1859 - 1898)

Karl Bergesen was born 8 Feb. 1859 on Ivarsøy farm, Fitjar, Hordaland County, Norway. He died 19 Oct. 1898(#12) on Gramshaug farm, Sveio in Hordaland. Karl was son of Berge Endresen and Inger Cathrine Thomsen. Karl married widow Brynhild Sophie Jørgensdatter on 20 Nov. 1885(#8). She was born 21 Sep. 1859 and died in 1946. She was daughter of Jørgen Olsen Hauge (1835 - 1882). Karl and Brynhild had 5 children:

1. Bendik Karlsen, b. 26 July 1886(#11). Emigrated to America.
2. Gabriel Karlsen, b. 13 Oct. 1888(#15). He was a sailor, he drowned at sea between Visby in Sweden and Grimstad.
3. Jørgen Karlsen, b. 14 July 1892(#9). Emigrated to America.
4. Cathrine Karlsdatter, b. 16 June 1895(#11), She was living in Haugesund.
5. Anna Gurine Karlsdatter, b. 9 Jan. 1898(#2), d. 1959.

Karl bought Gramshaug farm from his mother-in-law in 1886. He used the farm until he died. His wife Brynhild sold the farm to their daughter Cathrine in 1944. 1)
