Mads Nelsen Hystad (Abt. 1793 - 1849)

Mads Nelsen was born Abt. 1793 on Hystad farm, Stord, Hordaland County, Norway. He died Oct. 4, 1849(#51) he drowned. He was son of Nel Madsen Hystad and Kari Thordatter Bortveit. Mads married Sophia Paust Knudsdatter on Apr. 11, 1820(#5) in Stord church. Mads and Sophia had 5 children:

1. Nel Madsen, b. 1819,
2. Else Madsdatter, b. 1822,
3. Kari Madsdatter, b. 1824,
4. Cecelie Madsdatter, b. 1827,
5. Sophie Madsdatter, b. May 9, 1831(#45), m(1) Sep. 5, 1854(#26), Knud Helgesen Rommetveit, m(2) , Hans Olsen Braaten, m(3) 1891, Anfin Thorson.

Hysingstad is the same as Hystad farm.

His lastname are written as Nelsen, Nehlsen, Nælsen and Nielsen etc. in the sources.

In the 1835 census "Mads Nielsen" was living on Hysingstad (Hystad farm) together with his wife and their children.

In the 1845 census "Mads Nælsen" was living on Hysingstad (Hystad farm) together with his wife and their children. They had 1 horse, 8 cow's, 30 sheep and 1 pig.
