Peder Bertilsen (Peder Bertilson Berge) (1808 - 1870)

Peder Bertilsen was born 9 May 1808 on Lodengård farm, Gausdal, Oppland County, Norway. He died 7 Jan. 1870 in Pierce, Wisconsin, Usa. He was son of Bertil Olsen and Ragnild Andersdatter. Peder married Mari Olsdatter Sønstegaard on 5 Oct. 1835(# 48) in Svatsum church, Gausdal, Oppland County, Norway. They had 5 children:

1. Ole Pedersen, b. 22 Nov. 1835(# 8), d. 22 Dec. 1914, m. 27 Apr. 1866, Inger Helene Hansdatter (Jacobson).
2. Amund Pedersen, b. 23 nov 1842, d. 09 nov 1912, m. 25 apr 1869, Karen Olsdatter Jahr.
3. Hans Pedersen, b. 12 jul 1844, d. 18 aug 1896, m. 31 Aug. 1866, Julia E Hudson.
4. Bertil Pedersen, b. 22 jun 1846, d. 02 nov 1908, m. Hannah Wilson.
5. Anne Pedersdatter, b. 29 nov 1848,

Peder was christened 19 June 1808 in Svatsum church, Gausdal, Oppland County, Norway.

Peder received an emigration attest from the church dated 2 Mai 1849. He was then living at Busbergbjerget farm and was going to North America together with his wife Mari Olsdatter and their sons Ole, Amund, Bertil, Hans and their daughter Anne.

He emigrated to USA 1849 together with his wife and their 5 children. They departured 2 June 1849 on the brig "Preciosa" from Drammen, Buskerud County, Norway. They arrived in New York on 26 July 1849. They came to Jefferson County, Wisconsin, and moved about 1854 to Martell Township, Pierce County.

He used the name Peder Bertilson Berge in USA. He was mentioned as Peder Berthelson when his son Ole was married 27 Apr. 1866 in Martell, Pierce, Wisconsin, USA.

Peder was buried in Our Saviors Lutheran Church Cemetery.

His birth date is 12 May 1808 on his gravestone, but the correct date was 9 May 1808. See above and in his page on FIND A GRAVE below.
