Thomas (Tollefsen) Thomsen (1819 - 1886)

Thomas (Tollefsen) Thomsen was born 26 Mar. 1819(# 28) in Bergen, Hordaland County, Norway. He was baptized 16 Apr. 1819 in Nykirken in Bergen. He died 13 July 1886(# 8) on Håland farm, Klepp in Rogaland County, Norway. He was son of Tolleif Thomsen and Cathrine Nielsdatter. Thomas married Anna Kirstine Nilsdatter, from Stangeland farm in Klepp, 21 June 1853(# 11). She was born in 1825. She died 19 Dec. 1879 on Grude farm in Klepp. They had 7 children:

1. Taulerius Thomassen, b. 27 Oct. 1854(#58), d. 24 May 1934.
2. Carl Johan Thomassen, b. 8 Dec. 1855(#3), d. 3 Aug. 1875.
3. Anna Maria Thomasdatter, b. 11 Oct. 1858(#51), d. 30 Aug. 1885.
4. Tomas Thomassen, b. 25 Apr. 1861(#35). Emigrated to America.
5. Rakel Thomasdatter, b. 9 Aug. 1864(#45), d. 21 Jan. 1951.
6. Kirstine Thomasdatter, b. 20 Nov. 1865(#70). She is not mentioned in the Bygdebook.
7. Elen Thomasdatter, b. 6 Jan. 1870(#21)

Thomas moved from Engesund to Grude farm in Klepp in 1841. He was then 21 years old. He worked as a teacher in the northern school district. Thomas bought (bruk nr. 8 Bergeland) a part of Grude farm, July 04, 1853. He was living on Grude farm until 1880. After his wife died, Thomas moved to Håland farm in Klepp were he bought a part of the farm (bruk nr. 2.) Thomas was living here until he died in 1886.

From the census of 1865, we can see that Thomas is living on Grude farm. He is a farmer and owner of the place. He was living with his wife and 6 children. Thomas had 1 horse, 2 cows, 7 sheeps and a pig. He sowed 2/8 barrel of "rug" 3 barrel oats and 3 barrel potatoes.

From the census of 1875 we can see that Thomas still living on Grude farm. He is then named Tommas Tollefsen and he is living together with his wife and two daughters, Rakel and Elen. Thomas had 1 horse, 1 cow, 1 calf. He sowed 1/4 barrel "bygg", 1/4 barrel "rug", 2 1/2 barrel oats and 3 barrel potatoes.

From a letter dated Sep. 16 1883, written by Thomas to his brother Gerhard, Thomas signature was, Thomas Thomsen. 1)
