Cathrine (Carlson) Severson (1862 - 1923)

Cathrine Carlson (or Kathrine Karlsdatter as her name was in Norway) was born on 26 Apr. 1862(# 21) on Hjelmen farm, Fitjar, Hordaland County, Norway. She died on 17 Apr. 1923 in Stoughton, Wisconsin, USA. She was daughter of Karl Andreas Thomsen and Anna Hansdatter. Kathrine married John Martin Severson, born abt. 1858, d. 10 Nov. 1923 in Stoughton, WI. They had 7 children:

1. Carl Martin Severson. b. 30 Mar. 1893, d. 9 Aug. 1951.
2. Olaf Severson. b. abt. 1896, d. 16 Dec. 1924. He was killed in a truck accident. Never married.
3. Theodore Severson. b. 15 May 1898, d. July 1986, LaCrosse, WI.
4. Lillian (Lilly) Severson, b. 22 June 1899, d. 20 Mar. 1975.
5. Marie Anette Severson, b. 8 Oct. 1901, d. 24 July 1977.
6. Arthur Melvin Severson, b. 22 May 1904, d. 1 July 1967.
7. Clarence Severson, b. abt. 1907, d. Lincoln, NE

Cathrine was confirmed, 7 Oct. 1877(# 25) in Fitjar church. At that time, she was living on Hjelmen farm.

Cathrine was 29 years old when she emigrated to America, 16 Apr. 1891 together with her brother Tollef. She is then named Karen, unmarried and she was working as a maid. At that time she was living in Bergen.

Cathrine and her husband were living in Stoughton, Wisconsin, USA.

MRS. JOHN SEVERSON DIES AT THE HOSPITAL

Former Resident of Dunkirk Passes Away After Long Illness. Funeral Saturday.

Mrs. John Severson, who recently was mentioned as being very low at the local hospital, passed away last night. Her husband was committed to the Verona county hospital for incurably insane a couple of months ago, and surviving her are also seven children. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. M. H. Hegge at the First Lutheran church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, burial following at Riverside. 1)
