Maren Johanne Larsdatter (Jacobson)

Maren Johanne Larsdatter was born 20 Nov. 1813 on Blekebakken, Brevik, Telemark County, Norway. She died 10 Dec. 1911 in Spring Valley, Pierce, Wisconsin, USA. She was daughter of Lars Larsen and Aaste Hansdatter. Maren Johanne married Hans Jacobsen 6 Sep. 1840(# 8) in Eidanger church, Eidanger, Telemark County, Norway. They had at least 7 children:

2. Inger Helene Hansdatter, b. 23 Sep. 1842(# 24), d. 18 Aug. 1921, m. 27 Apr. 1866, Ole Pedersen.
3. Andreas Hansen, b. 4 July 1845(# 17), d. 6 June 1931, m. Abt. 1872, Alvilde Marie Melsby.
4. Aaste Marie Hansdatter, b. 20 Aug. 1848(# 44), d. 30 Oct. 1936, m. 5 July 1868, John Thompson.
5. Anne Margrethe Hansdatter, b. 12 Apr. 1851(# 39), m. 24 Nov. 1875, Henry Ferdinand Huffy.
6. Martha Oline Hansdatter, b. 23 Apr. 1854(# 29), d. 18 Jan. 1904, m. Abt. 1883, Henry Smith.
7. Jeremias Hansen, b. 20 Jan. 1859(# 14),

Maren Johanne and her husband were 1'st cousins. Maren Johanne's mother Aaste Hansdatter and Hans' mother Inger Hansdatter were sisters.

The children 1 - 3 was born on Blekebakken in Brevik. The children 4 - 6 was born on the tenant place Moen on Lerstang farm in Eidanger and the son # 7 Jeremias was born on Sillevik farm in Brunlanes, Vestfold County, Norway.

Maren Johanne was christened 28 Nov. 1813 in Brevik church, Brevik, Telemark County, Norway..

After she was married they lived on Blekebakken in Brevik before they moved to the tenant place Moen on Lerstang farm in Eidanger, where they lived from 1848 - 1854.

In 1855 Hans and Maren Johanne bought a house or a farm and moved with his family to Brunlanes in Vestfold County, Norway.

Maren Johanne and her family emigrated to USA in 1864 to Muskegon, Michigan where they were living for one year, and where her husband died. She moved with her children and settled in Pierce county, Wisconsin.

In the 1870 census she was living in Wisconsin together with her sons Andrew (Andreas) and Jerry (Jeremias). Her name was then listed as Mary Jacobson.

In the 1880 census she was living as a widow in Gilman, Pierce, WI, together with her son Jerrimia (Jeremias). Her name was then listed as Maren Jacobson. Her son Andrew Jacobson is also living in Gilman, Pierce, WI, together with his wife Alvilda. (Andreas).

In the 1900 census she was living as a widow in Gilman, Pierce, WI, together with her daughter Martha Smith and her husband Henry Smith and their daughter Hilda Smith. Maren's son Jerry is also living there. Her name was then listed as Mary Jakobson and her immigration year was 1865. She was mother to 8 children.

In the 1910 census she was living as a widow in Gilman, Pierce, WI, together with her son Andrew Jacobson and his wife Alvilda and their adopted daughter Nettie F Jacobson. Maren's name was then listed as Marien J. Jacobson. Her immigration year is here 1864.

Her birth year on the gravestone is 20 Nov. 1812, but the correct date from the church record is 20 Nov. 1813.

She was buried in Gilman Lutheran Cemetery. (Maren Jacobsen) Find a grave index. See above.
